The Radio Station of Wat Pa Luangta Maha Bua Yannasampanno Foundation

In year 2002 : Tor Chor Dor (Border Patrol Police) FM radio station of Phra Phutthayodfa Camp, Kanchanaburi province, had broadcast the sermons of the venerable Luangta Maha Bua regularly from the tape cassettes provided by Wat Pa Luangta Bua Forest Monastery. When the Foundation knew that such station would change its aerial to replace the old one (40 watts). Phra Acharn Phusit Chan Kantitharo, the Abbot of Wat Pa Luangta Maha Bua ( Tiger Temple ) saw the great benefit of having a radio station for sermon preaching. So, he asked for the donation of this old aerial. He, then, had a radio station built with the aerial installed in the name of Wat Pa Luangta Maha Bua Yannasampanno Foundation: naming as “Khluen Boon (Happy Waves)- Khluen Heng (Lucky Waves)”, in the front of Wat Pa Luangta Maha Bua Yannasampanno Forest Monastery. Kanchanaburi Province .

On 11 June 2002 , the station gave the first broadcast from the radio station ofWat Pa Luangta Maha Bua Yannasampanno Foundation, Kanchanaburi, at the frequency band of FM 104.25, under the name of radio wave “Dhamma-Boon(merit)-Heng(good-luck)” , broadcasting from the station located in front of the Monastery, with the transmitting power of only 40 watts. Before long, there were villagers from Kanchanaburi paying homage to the venerable “Luangta” at Wat Pa Baan Taad Forest Monastery, Udornthani Province , saying that they knew “Luangta” and listened to his sermons from this radio station.

At the end of 2002 , the “Dhamma-Boon-Heng” radio station increased its transmitting power to 100 watts. The old transmitter of 40 watts was given to Wat Pa Tam Pu Tei (the old monastery of Pra Acharn Chan before he built Wat Pa Luangta Maha Bua). During that time, Pra Acharn Narong, the abbot of Wat Kok Sathon Monastery, heard about the setting up of the radio station of Pra Acharn Chan. So, he asked Wat Doi Thep Somboon Monastery to have letter to Pra Acharn Chan requesting for a transmitter and advice.

In early 2003 , Pra Acharn Chan placed an order for the transmitter of 100 watts for special offering to Wat Doi Thep Somboon as requested. At that time, the price was around Baht 40,000. The director of Ban Taad School , Udornthani had a letter in the name of Wat Doi Thep Somboon Monastery, notifying Pra Acharn Chan of the proper frequency band in Udonthani, which was FM 103.25 for the transmitter of 100 watts.

12 August 2003 : on the occasion of the 90 th birthday anniversary of Venerable Luangta Maha Bua Yannasampanno, Pra Acharn Chan took the transmitter of the Foundation used at that time (as the one ordered could not be completed in time for the day) and presented as Radio-Transmitter offering including in the robes offering ceremony. This transmitter was in time for the first live broadcast of the sermon of Venerable “Luangta” from Wat Pa Baan Taad Forest Monastery, which is the opening date of broadcasting of FM 103.25 at Udonthani. During that time, the broadcasting from Kanchanaburi had been stopped. Before the day of offering, Venerable Luangta was told about the establish of Dhamma radio station, and he said “that is good, he does that for Dhamma spreading”.

In the late of 2003, for better transmitting in Kanchanaburi and its neighboring provinces, Pra Acharn Chan placed an order for a transmitter of 200 watts, and increased to 1,000 watts, to be completed by 2003. The frequency band was adjusted to FM 93.25 from then. The 100 watt transmitter was given to Wat Pa Tam Pu Tei Forest Monastery.

Pra Acharn Chan said to his followers about the setting up of the Foundation Radio Station that the building of bell was of great benefit and merit since ancient time, even if was only “bell ringing” for telling time. But the radio station broadcasting Dhamma sermons will be of the huge benefit and with greatest merit, because it is to spread Dhamma, especially the sermons given by highly revered meditation monks in the path of Venerable Acariya Mun.
