Jul – 7 Oct : The Buddhist Lent in year 2006 at Tiger Temple
The Buddhist Lent of this
year starts from the 11th of July to the 7th of October which
covers for 3-lunar-month of a good part of the rainy season.
Buddhist monks resolve to stay in a temple of their choice until
the Lent is over.
This year there are 10 monks and one novice stay in Tiger Temple throughout the
rain retreat. Only for this special period, the forest monks will receive their
one-meal food from the alms-round. So at Tiger Temple the monks will walk for
the alms-food at the front gate of the monastery at 8 a.m.(after their normal
alms-round in the village).
The core merit making during the Buddhist Lent for the laymen is not only offering
but also to strictly observe five or eight precepts, listen to the sermons and
practice meditation. This merit will instill and inherit in mind forever.
