Donation Fund for Wildlife at Tiger Temple

A part of the sermon by Venerable Luangta Maha Bua Yannasampanno "… Think about that: so many wild boars have come to Wat Pa Luangta Bua (Tiger Temple), that Than Chan (Phra Acharn Chan-the Abbot) has to spend the monastery’s money to feed them. This is animals’ trust to Dhamma. They are wild animals, but they become familiar with monks, think about that. About 300 boars came to the monastery; little ones came with their mothers. They are be waiting, until monks finish their meals, and food is distributed to all of them… Don’t look down on animals. During their lives as animals, they have to pay for their past Karma or to build merit in this life, but after they die, they may be reborn higher than us in their next lives…”

Phra Acharn Chan (Abbot) offered a point to ponder: “if human beings have nothing to eat, they can beg for food. But these animals cannot beg, no one will understand them if they do. On top of that, they may be hunted, so they have to run away from their homes and may starve to death. What a pity”.

Out of compassion , the Abbot gave food to these animals ever since he first arrived here to build the monastery (1994 – before the arrival of the first orphan cub). He shared his own food with them; food that he received from his alms round. He hardly had enough food for himself, but he still shared it. So, these animals kept on coming and hanging around this place, expecting food. There were many kinds of animals, hundreds of individuals of each kind that are still here today.

We may want to know how the abbot shares his time with these animals . In the evening, after finishing his work in the monastery and at the foundation, he buys 2 –3 truck loads of fruit and vegetables, and spreads it on the ground for wild animals to eat. He does this every day. The food costs around 3,000 – 6,000 Bhat per load.
