 "Luangta" Writing

Venerable Luangta Maha Bua also talked about the translater who translated his two books into English: ‘Pra Acharn Pannavaddho Thera (Than Panya)’

“ ‘The Biography of Acariya Mun’ and ‘The Mode of Practice..’ these two books are translated by ‘Than Panya’. These two English books are very important and almost perfect on the substance because Than Panya is the English practised monk who translated from my original Thai into English. Whoever is the expert in linguistics but has not practised Dhamma, will not be able to interpret the real meaning. But Than Panya is the Dhamma practised monk, he understood and practised well in Dhamma ; and with his good English, altogether, the outcome is so good. We can see obviously when he asked me on the certain word, that word is quite significant leading to various meanings. This shows how good of his knowledge in Thai language, technical Thai words, from his straight asking to the point of which is not quite clear. Likewise, any expert in whichever language, but is not keen on Dhamma in practising mode will not be able to ‘interpret’ the Dhamma practice correctly.”

[The translater: Pra Acharn Pannavaddho Thera“Than Panya” is an English monk who came to Thailand for finding a teacher who was skilled in the ways of practicing the Teaching of the Buddha. Fortunately his Thai friend took him to meet the Venerable Luangta Maha Bua. After meeting with Venerable Luangta two or three times he then asked if he may stay at Wat Pa Baan Taad (Udornthani Province). Venerable Luangta accepted him and he stayed in Wat Pa Baan Taad since 16 th February 1963 (2506) until he passed away on 18 th August 2004 (2547) at Wat Pa Baan Taad, Udornthani at the age of 78, ordained as a Buddhist monk for 38 years.]
